Ronda Mountains

Our trip begins in Ronda (the city of El Tajo) the historic city in Málaga, famous for its taurine traditions, its wine and Flamenco. We will be staying in a comfortable and historic hotel next to El Tajo and the new bridge.
More than 80 km of fantastic views, beautiful white villages and lovely people. We will hike for 5 days passing through the mountain range heading South, accompanied by our expert guide and always with the support of a vehicle that will be available for our needs throughout the trip.

    Day 1.Arrival and trip presentation

    Pick up at the airport of Malaga and transfer to the “Hotel el Molino” 3*.
    Welcoming lunch or dinner. When we are finished, our guides will make a presentation of our trip. If it’s a welcoming lunch, our travellers will enjoy a free afternoon to get to know more about the historic town of Ronda. Including the bullring, one of the oldest in Spain and the bullfighting museum.

    Day 2. From Ronda to the Benajoan station - 15,5km.

    Breakfast in the hotel. Our day route begins at the spectacular “Tajo de Ronda”. After a little section, we will have the opportunity to take some excellent photos of the town on the Tajo and the hanging houses over the cliff. Soon, we will arrive to a zone known as “Hoya del tajo”, where soft paths will bring us to Benaojan closeness, but before arriving to this village, we are to climb “Ronda port”, under which is “cueva de Gato”, which we could visit.
    After have crossed Benaojan, famous for its local home-made hams and cold cured meat, very close we will find
    its train station. From here, we will take a path situated next to the River Guadiaro river-bed to arrive to “cueva de Gato”. And from there we will go back to the hotel to rest.

    Day 3.From Cueva de Gato to Jimera de Libar – 11, 3km

    After our breakfast, we begin a beautiful hiking journey which brings us today across holm oak woods. This wonderful path will make us enter in a magical place where the silence is the main caracter, only rarely broken by the train passing ocasionnaly through the Woods next to the Guardiaro’s river-bed , or ocasionally by “Perez the
    man of the station” and his sheeps herds, he is the man of the place everybody knows him and he is the main character of a lot of jobs experiences and of humility of the past time. Just 3 kilometers of our today goal, is the beautiful and restored Station of Jimera de libar, from where we will climb to this white and delightful village which is Jimera de Libar. After we have made ourselves comfortable and having a deserved shower in the hotel with a good meal, we will have time to go round the streets and speak with the people, and if you’re a lucky to take a photo of the sunset, especially of this wonderful village.

    Day 4. From Jimera de Libar to Benalauria – 17,8km.

    After the night’s silence comes the dawn. Today we Heard roosters singing, the best proof that we are really in a rural population who keeps old habits. After having breakfast, we begin our route. Today the day offers, just like the other days, fantastic views from a certain height above the main river of the region, the Guadiaro. Vehicles can wait for us ay the spectacular Laguna Florida to meet any need . Although we always have the possibility of extending the routes , in this case up to 1000 meters from the Port of Benalauría, our proposal ends in the village of Siete Pilas and its famous fountain that gives it its name . The car will take us to a place of freshness where we will find the selected restaurant.

    Day 5. From Benalauria to Genalguacil – 14,2km.

    After the route of today we will have the impression that we have passed through the most beautiful places the nature hides. Tomorrow we will dream of getting back to Benalauria to enjoy again this step which will be engraved in our mind forever with our beautifulest memories. We will cross a chestnut wood, which gives us in automn a wonderful and impressive range of warm colors. We will cross the Genal river which is at the same height than Venta de San Juan and we will walk next to this for several kilometers. After this part, the climb to Genalguacil is soft, pleasant and full of nice surprises as regards vegetation. Genalguacil is known as a “museum village”, because of its 120 sculptures decorating its streets in a small village with a population just a little more than 400. Next, during the afternoon we will visit the Contemporary Art Museum of the town, which will surprise us and after will have good time tasting typical meals of the regional cooking, which will be prepared with great care.

    Day 6. From Puerto del Lentisco Casares – 22,9 km.

    After yesterdays route and thinking that nothing could overpass what we lived the day before during the previously step, we will begin our walk to Casares. This, will be the royal step, because it is about 15 kilometers acrossing woods of cork oaks and pines with a thicket intensity, home of deers and wild boars. This zone is famous because of its hunting wealth.
    After having accrossed several rivers with an adventure touch and when it was necessary taking off our shoes, we will begin an extend climbing to “Puerto de las Viñas”(vineyard port) passing before by an old military barrack very close of the biggest vulture place of the zone, where hundreds of leonado vultures made their home.
    We will also be surprised by a wonderful retired town perfectly integrated into the beautiful landscape, which seems to go out of a fairy tale. Arriving to the “vineyard Port” our legs begin to have a slight tiredness feeling, caused with no doubt by the lenght of the stage. But at the same time in our hearts we feel a mix of happiness and gratitude hard to explain, so each good moments lived during this journey are to become unforgettable memories ones of the most beautiful stages, shared with a group of people feeling a deep love, rescpect and admiration for everything the nature gives us.

    Day 7: Estepona.

    After have arrived the afternoon before in Casares, we are transfered to Estepona, town of the sun coast, very close to Marbella. We stay in a hotel in the center which gives us the possibility to visit the historical center to know more about it and doing shopping or just enjoying time in the beach, rowing in boat or whatever we want in a lot of possibilities the village offers to us. We can also have an one day excursion at the close Rock of Gibraltar, where
    we can do shopping free taxes and have a little of turism in the “Rock” so we can see the unique free living monkeys colony in Europe.

    Day 8. Transportation from Estepona to Malaga’s airport.

    We will be picked up in the hotel, to take us to the airport, finishing here ou trip, with the desire that these moments were some days of enjoyment of the route , seeing the beauty of the landscapes, the silence of its paths and the gratitude of people living in the mountained Ronda.

The región of Ronda is also famous for its excellent food. We will have the chance to taste the famous oxtail, goat in a garlic sauce, fennel stew and wide and exquisite variety of dishes washed down with wines from the region.

Vehicles
During our trip we will have one or more vehicles for our luggage transfer and for other needs that may arise along the way related to safety or care users. We will find vehicles while we are walking once or twice to give water, fruit or the possibility of not walking anymore that day

Guide
All the way we will be accompanied by one or more bilingual guides ( Spanish and English ) that will help us interpret the landscape , understand the nature and enjoy the journey . Their mission is to answer all our questions and concerns related to the route, as well as knowledge of the possibilities Malaga offers hiking and nature tourism.
